Opening Ceremony of Pradhan Mantri Baratiya Janaushadhya Kendra (Generic Medicine Store), on 19 Mar 2018

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi PariYojana Kendra(PMBJPK) is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. Of India, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through special kendras known as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra. Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana Kendra (PMBJPK) has been set up to provide generic drugs, which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs. BPPI (Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India) has been established under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India, with the support of all the CPSUs for co-coordinating procurement, supply and marketing of generic drugs through Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS) had procured the drug store license from State Drugs Control department & underwent a MOU with BPPI for opening this Jan aushadhi outlet to serve the public with generic medicines in low cost.

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi PariYojana Kendra (PMBJPK) outlet was opened in VISTAS Campus on 19th March 2018 by Dr.S.Manivannan, Central Deputy Drugs Controller, CDSCO, New Delhi in the esteemed presence of Dr.P.Swaminathan, Vice Chancellor i/c & Dr.A.R.Veeramani, Registrar of VISTAS. This was started by VISTAS with a primary aim to provide the quality generic medicine to the society at a subsidized price. Further, the faculty of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharm.D students will get an excellent opportunity to interact with the patients and provide the necessary counseling about the possible adverse drug reactions and safety use of the prescribed medications. This will also serve as tool for understanding the problems faced by the patients associated with various regimens.
